Torcello Crocodile Clutch
The flap is cut from the head of the skin. Raised bony plates sit at the centre, the smaller round scales of the head run out around them, and the body tiles fall in even rows below. That part of a crocodile appears once, so the panel is chosen before anything is cut.
It closes under the flap on a magnetic snap, and a zip runs the width of the back. Inside, leather lining, card slots, a zip pocket and one large compartment for papers.
A strap of the same skin hangs from a silver ring at the side, for carrying in the hand. Black or brown, 28 by 18 by 2.5 centimetres.
Every skin is chosen individually, so no two pieces carry the same pattern.

Crocodile scales are horn rather than hide. Heat and direct sun dry them, and a dried tile lifts at the edge and will not lie flat again.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth along the run of the tiles. Blot rain rather than rubbing it, and let the piece dry in a cool room, never near a radiator or under a hairdryer.
Condition it two or three times a year with a product made for exotic leather, and use less than you think. Wax polish collects in the seams and takes the light out of them.
Keep it in its dust bag, unpressed and unstacked. Anything beyond a wipe is better brought to us.
