Python on a bag is cut so a full band of scales sits across the face, with the taper of the skin running one way rather than meeting in the middle. On a wallet the same rule applies at a smaller size.
The scales lift a little at the edge when the leather bends, which is the skin behaving as it should. The smaller pieces sit in wallets and pouches.
Python is thin, so a bag in it is lined and backed to give it body. Done properly the skin still moves and the scales still lift. Done badly it goes stiff, which is the usual sign a piece was built for the pattern rather than for use.
