Python without shine. The skin is finished matte, which leaves the scales to be read by their edges rather than by the light, and the largest of them run in a band down the middle of each side.
Small and hard in shape: nineteen centimetres long, fifteen high, eight deep. Twin rolled handles. The silver zip travels around the top and opens the bag wide, and a flat pocket is set into the lining.
Metal feet under the base. In dark grey, fuchsia, ivory, pink and yellow.
Every skin is chosen individually, so no two pieces carry the same pattern.

Python scales overlap in one direction, like roof tiles, and that direction decides how the piece is cleaned. Always wipe from the head end towards the tail, along the way the scales lie. Wiping against them lifts the edges and they do not settle back.
A soft dry cloth is enough. Keep the piece out of direct sun, which fades the markings, and away from damp, which is what makes scales curl.
Condition it lightly and rarely with a product made for snake skin. Too much softens the scale edges and they begin to catch.
Store it flat or lightly stuffed, in its dust bag. A lifted scale can often be laid back down by a specialist, so bring it in rather than gluing it.
