Under the finish the python is grey and cream. Over it sits a pearl sheen that shifts as the bag turns, strongest across the large dorsal scales laid over the flap.
It closes on a gold plate lock, pressed down and turned. The strap adjusts for the shoulder or across the body. A small tag of the same skin hangs at one side.
Twenty-four by nine and a half by sixteen centimetres. Lined in sheep leather, with a zip pocket, a slot pocket and a pocket for a phone.
Every skin is chosen individually, so no two pieces carry the same pattern.

Python scales overlap in one direction, like roof tiles, and that direction decides how the piece is cleaned. Always wipe from the head end towards the tail, along the way the scales lie. Wiping against them lifts the edges and they do not settle back.
A soft dry cloth is enough. Keep the piece out of direct sun, which fades the markings, and away from damp, which is what makes scales curl.
Condition it lightly and rarely with a product made for snake skin. Too much softens the scale edges and they begin to catch.
Store it flat or lightly stuffed, in its dust bag. A lifted scale can often be laid back down by a specialist, so bring it in rather than gluing it.
