Gubbio Crocodile Glasses Case
Hornback crocodile runs the length of the body, the raised ridges in rows that narrow as they reach the base. The lid is cut from the skull, where the plates sit in a tight irregular cluster rather than in rows, so one case carries two parts of the same animal reading two different ways. Turn it over and the back of the lid returns to hornback.
It is a slip case, not a hinge. The lid pulls off and pushes back on and is held by friction alone, which is why the shell is built rigid and the walls are kept even the whole way round. Lined in tan, soft against a lens.
Black or brown. The ridges run differently on every skin, so no two cases are marked the same way.

Hornback ridges stand proud of the surface, so wipe across them with a soft dry cloth and let it follow the shape rather than pressing into the channels. Keep it out of damp and out of direct sun. A conditioner made for exotic skins, used now and then, stops the ridges drying at the edges.
